Starting with the basic optical filters, this animation discusses the underlying principles in interference filters. The phenomenon of interference also helps in designing the diffraction gratings made of a transparent material like glass. The phenomenon of diffraction causes the light beam to bend slightly when it passes through a small slit. The other element covered in the video is a prism monochromator. The prism disperses light according to its wavelength. Using this principle one can cause different wavelengths of radiation to travel different paths and block the light path of unwanted wavelengths.
